WELCOME TO THE ORCHID GARDEN Casting organic orchids was originally an experiment in metallurgy that obsessed me. My first attempt I castled 5 orchids and was rewarded with one complete casting. Needless to say I was thrilled that I even had one complete casting. This is something that is realistically is not possible to cast. However as you can see it is fizable to do, while capturing the fine details of each bloom. The low success rate spurred me on to try refining the casting method, with hopes of better success rates. In the end I have only managed a 40-50% rate of success. When I cast 6 orchids, I will with luck receive 3 complete orchids for my work. I have fashioned these blooms into jewellery items, but I generally make them into fine miniature sculptures, combining drift woods, fine silver, and sterling silver. These orchids received an award for design and display at the Vancouver B.C. Canada 2000 Van Duzen Garden show. We had aproximently 2 dozen orchids on display for this show. Below are just a few of the orchids I currently have available. This page will be updated with new orchids as they are completed, so check back as often as you like.
